Azerbaijan, Baku, May 12 / Trend , E.Ismayilov /

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) plans to produce roughly 6.9 million cubic meter of gas from shallow part of Gunashli field in 2009, a source at the SOCAR said. SOCAR develops the shallow part of the field independently.

"According to forecasts, production in Gunashli should reach 6.9 billion cubic meters in 2009, but perhaps volume of the production will be more than the planned due to drilling of new gas wells," the source said.

According to the source, it is planned to finish drilling new wells on Gunashli-13 and Gunashli-11 during 1-1.5 months. May be, production will be increased in these wells.

Both wells are being drilled to produce gas and condensate. The depth of the first well will be 3,700 meters, while the second - 3,900 meters, the source said.

Gunashli is the largest oil and gas field developed by SOCAR. The field accounts for 60% of oil and 70% of gas developed by SOCAR. The field belongs to the 28 May Oil and Production Unity of SOCAR.

New wells are drilled under the Program of Development of Oil and Gas Extracting Unit (2008-2010) which develops Gunashli field. Oil production is expected to be stabilized and output of a natural gas is expected to be increased as a part of the program.

In 2009, SOCAR plans to produce from fields being developed independently, 8 billion cubic meters of gas as part of its own program. A total of 7 billion of this volume will be transferred to the State. The remained gas will be used for the company's own needs for injection into reservoirs to enhance oil recovery fields.

But earlier another source in SOCAR said that SOCAR's gas production may exceed 8 billion cubic meters as part of a gas program. "At the end of four months, the company has already exceeded the approved schedule for gas production, and if there is no problem, the volume of SOCAR gas production will exceed 8 billion in 2009," the source said.
