U.S. ups oil import from Azerbaijan

In January-July 2009, the United States imported over 12.3 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan compared to over 12.2 million barrels in the same period of 2008, the U.S. State Energy Information Agency (EIA) reported.
In January, the United States imported 2.1 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan, while this country did not import the oil from Azerbaijan in February. This figure is roughly 2.5 million barrels in March and over 3.1 million barrels in April. The import amounted to 630,000 barrels in May.
The EIA reports the U.S. imported over 26.8 million barrels of oil in 2008 compared to over 20.6 million in 2007. This figure made up 9.7 million barrels of oil in 2006.
The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline is a key export route which delivers oil to the Turkish Ceyhan port.
The Azerbaijani light oil is exported from the Georgian Supsa port.
Oil is exported from the Georgian Black Sea Batumi port to where it is delivered from Baku via railway, from Novorossiysk port via Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline.
