Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 April / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

According to calculations, within the prospects for using biomass (biogas), methane emissions in Azerbaijan this year made up 40-45 million cubic meters, head of investment and reconstruction of industrial facilities department of the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan Ramiz Rzayev said to conference on alternative energy sources in Baku on April .

Biomass consists of a large amount of energy for industrial, agricultural, household and other wastes. It is possible to obtain energy from the biomass through burning and fermentation.

"Model calculations show that the total methane emissions per year amount to 40-45 million cubic meters and up to 60 percent of cattle in the country is concentrated in farms," said Rzayev.

If to introduce appropriate technologies, it is possible to obtain about 24-27 million cubic meters of methane per year, said Rzayev.

There is also a great potential in obtaining biogas from urban wastes. Currently, the country has more than 200 sites for wastes with a total area of 900 hectares.
