SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) intends to overhaul the catalytic cracking unit at the Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev in the near future, a source at SOCAR said on July 22.
According to the source, the activities of the cracker will be stopped in order to carry out the repair work.
SOCAR regularly carries out scheduled overhaul work on its manufacturing facilities. One of the facilities is the catalytic cracking unit.
"This facility is also periodically repaired, but this year, its overhaul will be carried out," said the source.
The source did not describe exact dates of stopping works of the facility, but said the overhaul will not take much time.
Usually, in advance, preparatory work is implemented to ensure that stopping work of the catalytic cracking does not affect the production. Gasoline fractions and liquidated gas is produced in the catalytic cracking unit.
Another source in SOCAR said earlier that within the operations on the reconstruction of the oil refinery named after Heydar Aliyev is expected to undertake the following projects:
- within satisfaction of the growing gasoline demand is planned to increase production capacity of catalytic cracking from two million tons to three million tons, the implementation of the reconstruction project for the improvement of qualitative indicators and reduction of operating costs (2010-2012 years)
-it is planned to increase the capacity of the machinery of primary processing (ELOU AVT-6), reducing fuel and power consumption (30%), the implementation of the reconstruction project in order to reduce operational costs and improve qualitative indicators (2010-2011),
-it is planned to implement project to improve the quality of diesel production (2010-2011).
Also the plant will hold a number of other, smaller projects aimed at increasing production capacity, improvement of qualitative indicators and reduction of operating costs.
SOCAR has two oil refineries - Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev and Oil Refinery Azneftyag. Designed total processing capacity of both oil refineries is 20 million tons per year.
