Azerbaijan, Baku, May 7 / Trend, E. Ismayilov /

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has begun the process of pumping gas into the Kalmaz underground gas storage facility, a source in SOCAR said on Friday.

Azerbaijan has two underground gas storage facilities - Garadagh and Kalmaz.

He said the full-scale process of gas pumping into underground gas storage facilities has already begun, and at present gas is pumped into both underground gas storage facilities.

"The process of pumping gas into the Garadagh gas storage facility was started earlier, and work on the gas pumping into the Kalmaz gas storage began last night. Now, daily volume of gas injection is more than 1.9 million cubic meters," the source said.

He said that the process of gas pumping into gas storage facility will be completed in October-November depending on weather conditions. Last year, the gas injection was completed in early December.

As the source previously said this year it is planned to inject gas into the underground gas storage facilities in the amount exceeding the volumes injected last season.

Gas in underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan is used to meet customers' needs in the winter, as well as fulfill SOCAR's obligations under gas supply contracts.
