Turkmen oil transportation via BTC grows in 2013

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline which exports most of the oil produced in Azerbaijan, transported around 3.3 million tons of Turkmen oil in 2013 compared to 3.1 million tons in 2012.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline which exports most of the oil produced in Azerbaijan, transported around 3.3 million tons of Turkmen oil in 2013 compared to 3.1 million tons in 2012, according to a report of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee published on Jan.23.

'"During the reporting period, some 3.3 million tons of transit Turkmen oil was transported from the Sangachal Terminal via the BTC pipeline', the report said.

Turkmen oil is transported via the BTC under a contract between SOCAR Trading and Dragon oil, producing oil in Turkmenistan.

Transportation of Turkmen oil via the BTC began in July 2010.

SOCAR Trading buys and transports oil from producers in Turkmenistan across the Caspian Sea to the BTC entrance flange at the Sangachal Terminal in Baku. The BTC Co. then transports the oil via BTC to SOCAR Trading at the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan, in Turkey.

BTC Co. shareholders are: BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), ТРАО (6.53 percent), Eni (five percent), Total (five percent), Itochu (3.40 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhillips (2.5 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent)

BTC's pumping capacity is 1.2 million barrels of oil per day.
