By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) has announced a tender for the joint development of the Umid field and Babak perspective structure in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, the first vice-president of SOCAR Khoshbakht Yusifzade told media Sept. 10.

The drilling of new wells on Umid field, where two wells already operate, was stopped due to the announcement of a tender for the field, he said. Construction works on the field of the second platform were also suspended.

Yusifzade explained the stoppage of works by the fact that the winner of the tender may have another approach to the development of the field.

The daily debit of two wells in the Umid field varies in the range of 1.1-1.5 million cubic meters of gas.

More than 390 million cubic meters of gas and 65 million metric tons of condensate have been produced on Umid gas condensate field, which was discovered by SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan).

The total volume of gas reserves in the field is estimated at 200 billion cubic meters.

SOCAR announced the discovery of the Umid field in 2010. The volume of the field reserves hit over 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate according to the results of drilling of the first exploration well, SOCAR specialists said.

The Umid field is located 75 kilometers from Baku, 40 kilometers away from the coast. The first geophysical work was carried out there in 1953.Operations were also conducted in 1972 using modern methods. Nine wells were drilled there from 1977 to 1992, without any results.

Some 400 billion cubic meters of gas and 80 million metric tons of condensate can be discovered on the Babak prospective structure, according to preliminary data.
