Iran is the world's 4th largest exporter of petroleum tar.

The Managing Director of Pasargad Oil Company Mohsen Delaviz said that Iran is also the Middle East's biggest tar exporter, the IRNA agency reported Oct. 26.

"Iran annually exports 2.3 million metric tons of tar," he said.

"The world's total tar demand is over 100 million metric tons per year," Delaviz noted, adding that Iran's share is around 4 percent of the mentioned figure.

He went on to note that Pasargad Oil Company recently signed a contract with an Omani company to export 500,000 tons of tar to that country.

Delaviz said the Pasargad Oil Company is also negotiating with a European company.

"By improving the infrastructures, we can double the country's exports," Delaviz noted.

"We can overtake South Korea to become Asia's main tar exporter," he said, adding that Iran exports tar to 61 countries around the world.
