Some 120 million litres of kerosene and gasoil are being distributed in Iran per day.
Naser Sajjadi, managing director of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, said 20 million litres of kerosene and 100 million litres of gasoil are being supplied to the market to be used by households during winter, Iran's Shana news agency reported on Dec. 20.
He added that some five million litres of gasoline are being imported per day.
Iran's total liquid fuel consumption hit 1.17 billion litres in the week to December 12.
Some 751.7 million litres of diesel oil and 418.3 million litres of mazut were consumed in the country in the mentioned week.
In the first six months of current year averagely some 53.8 million litres of liquid fuel were consumed at Iranian power plants. Mazut accounted for 28 million litres of the mentioned figure.
The oil ministry seeks to decrease liquid fuel consumption in the country by boosting gas consumption.
Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh previously said that by increasing Iran's total gas output especially from joint fields, the country's liquid fuel consumption in the industrial units and power plants will be reduced.
Gas shortage forced Iran to burn 28 billion litres of diesel oil and mazut in power plants last year. According to National Iranian Gas Company's official statistics, Iran delivered 36 billion cubic meters of gas (some 100 million cubic meters per day) to power plants last year. The figure is projected to reach to 42 billion cubic meters in the current year.
