MP: Iran can sell 2M barrels of oil per day

Iran can sell up to 2 million barrels of oil per day during the time of sanctions as well, said Mohammad-Javad Abtahi, a member of the Iranian parliament’s Velayat faction, Trend reports with reference to the website of the Iranian parliament.

He said that if the US doesn’t prolong the exemption period for eight countries buying oil from Iran, the country can protect its oil production.

Abtahi added that Iran doesn’t announce how it will sell oil during the sanctions, so that this way won’t be discovered.

He refused to disclose further details.

The JCPOA, signed between Iran and the P5+1 group (US, UK, Russia, China, France and Germany), was put in force in January 2016. The US announced its withdrawal from the deal In May 2018.

The US imposed sanctions on Iran's oil sector in November 2018, while providing a 6-month exemption period for eight countries buying oil from Iran. The period ended on May 2 and was not prolonged by the US. Moreover, the US added Iran's metal industry to the list of sanctions on May 8, 2019.
