Two combined cycle plants under construction at Uzbek TPP

Two combined-cycle plants with a capacity of 230-280 MW each are being built at Takhiatash thermal power plant (TPP) in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

Commissioning is scheduled for 2020. TPP is designed to cover the need for electricity in Karakalpakstan.

The design capacity of the project is 510 MW, the total cost is $678.2 million.

Putting two combined cycle power plants into operation will allow the Takhiatash TPP to cover the predicted increase in electricity consumption with an annual fuel savings of 488.6 million m3.

It is planned that on average, the TPP efficiency will increase from 31.21 to 49.7 percent, the annual amount of generated electricity will amount to 3.6 billion kWh, and the annual amount of generated heat – to 139,000 Gcal. Moreover, 97 new jobs will be created there.

A corresponding contract has been signed between JSC Uzbekenergo and Consortium of Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd. and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd., the general contractor on a turnkey basis
