Tajikistan to increase import of gas from Uzbekistan

Tajikistan plans to increase imports of Uzbek natural gas in 2020, First Deputy General Director of Tojiktransgaz Shavkat Shoimzoda said, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

He added that it is planned to agree on the supply of up to 200 million cubic meters of Uzbek fuel to the country.

Last year, 140 million cubic meters of natural gas were imported from Uzbekistan in the amount of $17.7 million.

In comparison with 2018, Uzbek gas supplies to Tajikistan increased by 2.6 times.

The report notes that the main consumer of Uzbek gas is the Tajik Aluminium Company.

Some other enterprises, such as the Dushanbe thermal power plant, also receive gas from Uzbekistan.

Natural gas supplies from Uzbekistan to Tajikistan have been restored since April 2018 after a six-year break.
