The potential for electricity generation of renewable energy power plants was 885 megawatts in Iran by the end of last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), Jafar Mohammadnejad Sigaroudi, spokesperson for Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization told Trend.

According to Sigaroudi, in total, there are 128 stations (wind turbines, solar panels and other alternative renewable energy power plants).

Sigaroudi added that 44 percent of alternative renewable energy power plants are solar panels, and 61 stations operate in this sector

The official said that there are 19 wind turbine stations, and the share of this area in alternative renewable energy power plants is 34 percent.

"The share of small-scale hydropower plants is 12 percent," he said.

According to the official, water consumption, residual fuel consumption and prevention of greenhouse gas emissions are among the main priorities in the use of alternative renewable energy power plants in Iran.

Sigaroudi said that in addition, 989 million liters of water were saved and 3,070 tons of greenhouse gases were prevented from spreading.

"About3,700 small-scale power plants were built (apartments, companies and other small spaces) by the end ofthe last Iranian year. These renewable energy power plants were created within the program on guaranteed purchase of electricity from citizens," he said.

Sigaroudi added in addition, 2,200 small solar power plants are being built.
