Uzbekistan starts construction of hydropower plant in Syrdarya region

Uzbekhydroenergo has begun construction of a small hydropower plant (HPP) in Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing the Uzbek Energy Ministry.

Implementation of this investment project is scheduled for 2020-2022, the preliminary cost of construction is estimated at 21.3 million euros, the report said.

The technical and economic feasibility study of the project was examined in the prescribed manner, and financing is planned at the expense of external loans from Eximbank of Russia.

An agreement worth 19.2 million euros was signed with the Russian Power Machines company. Uzbekhydroenergo will participate in the project with its financing in the amount of 3.7 million euros.

The installed capacity of the HPP, according to the project, is equal to 10.7 MW. It is planned to install two hydropower units, the capacity of each of which will be 5.35 MW, and annual productive capacity - 41.1 million kWh.

In March 2020, the Power Construction Corporation of China completed modernization of the hydropower plant on Bozsu Canal in Uzbekistan. This allowed bringing the total capacity of this hydroelectric power plant to 15 MW.

Two units have been installed; the capacity of each of which is 7.5 MW. These hydroelectric units have the capacity to produce electricity even in periods of low water.
