Uzbekistan reveals data on its active public-private partnership projects

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27

By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

The Agency for Public-Private Partnership Development of Uzbekistan, together with international financial institutions is working on 32 PPP projects worth $3.85 billion, Trend reports citing the agency.

Of the total number of projects, four have already been assigned for implementation, four more projects are at the stage of signing an agreement, and seven - at the tender stage. Feasibility studies are being prepared on 17 projects, the message said.

At the same time, energy projects hold a significant share in the total volume of PPP investments.

The projects being implemented include: construction of a solar power plant in Navoi region with a capacity of 100 MW together with Masdar investment company (UAE) with the support of the International Finance Corporation; construction of a solar power plant in Samarkand region with a capacity of 100 MW together with the French Total Eren company; construction of the Syrdarya thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,500 MW together with ACWA Power company (Saudi Arabia) with the support of Dentons, White & Case; construction and reconstruction of more than 35 km of existing water supply and sewerage networks and modernizers.

The reason for significant share of energy projects, according to the agency's experts, is a growing population and growing living standards, leading to higher energy consumption as well as increased urbanization.

In addition, the total electricity consumption during the peak period (winter time) in 2030 will reach more than 20,900 MW against 10,400 MW in 2019. This will require an increase in generating capacity by 10,500 MW in 2030, the message said.
