A total of 6.2 million tons of oil were processed in Kazakhstan over the period of the first five months of 2020, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev said, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s prime minister.
Nogayev said that the reason for the lag in oil refining volumes compared to the same period of last year was a decline in oil products import by neighboring states due to coronavirus-related restrictions. Due to quarantine measures taken, consumption on the local market also decreased.
The gasoline production amounted to 1.7 million tons, which is 8 percent more compared to the same period of 2019, of diesel fuel to 1.7 million tons, which is 8 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, of aviation fuel to 163,200 tons, which is 39 percent less than during the corresponding period of 2019.
Overall, Nogayev said, the situation at the country’s oil market is stable. No deficit at the fuel and lubricants market was observed.
The results of January through May 2020 said that 205,000 tons of gasoline were exported to Europe and other Central Asian countries.
“In order to ensure uninterrupted supply of bitumen to the local market, the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development approved a schedule for the production of bitumen in the amount of 984,000 tons by 2020,” he said.
Thus, bitumen production amounted to 294,000 tons during the reporting period, which is 23 percent more compared to the same period of 2019.
