The foundation of a 230-kilovolt electric substation has been laid at the Rey Thermal Power Plant in Iran's Tehran Province, the executor of the plan to modernize the Iran's Rey Thermal Power Plant Rouhollah Espinani said, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Iran.

Espinani said that this electric substation will be commissioned within 18 months.

The official emphasized that the contractor for the construction of the substation is the MAPNA Group.

About 11 million euros and 670 billion rials (about $15.9 million) will be spent on the construction of the substation,” he said.

Espinani stressed that with the commissioning of this electric substation, it will be possible to build gas and steam units of the Rey Thermal Power Plant. Thus, the efficiency of this power plant will increase by 60 percent.

The official noted that thus, the old units of the thermal power plant with efficiency of 20 percent will be suspended.

Iran's Rey Thermal Power Plant has a total of 29 gas turbines and the production capacity of this power plant is 979.4 megawatt hours. Due to the obsolescence of the equipment in the units of the TPP, 21 gas units of the station generated a total of 1.33 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in the first four months of current Iranian year (March 20 - July 21, 2020).
