Roadmaps for further reforming Uzbekistan’s electricity, oil and gas industries discussed

Roadmaps for further reforming the electricity and oil and gas industries with the participation of international experts have been discussed, Trend reports citing Energy Ministry.

A round table with the participation of a number of international financial institutions (IFIs) was held on October 23, 2020, on the further reform of Uzbekistan’s energy sector.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov, Minister of Energy Alisher Sultanov, Minister of Finance Timur Ishmetov, as well as heads of the State Assets Management Agency, Uzbekneftegaz JSC, Uztransgaz JSC, National electrical networks of Uzbekistan, Thermal power plants JSC, Regional electrical networks JSC.

Foreign online participants in the discussion were representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a number of international legal and audit companies, as well as international experts and consultants.

It is reported that during the round table, recommendations and roadmaps for further reforming the electricity and oil and gas industries were discussed, in which international experts and consultants from the World Bank, ADB, and EBRD took part.

Also, the meeting participants made suggestions on defining the role and tasks of IFIs for further technical assistance in the implementation of reforms.

In addition, the experts noted that the implementation of such large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan’s energy sector will make it possible to introduce modern methods of corporate governance, the transition to market mechanisms, improve the quality of services that provide for an affordable and guaranteed supply of electricity and natural gas to consumers, achieve financial stability of the energy industry, energy-efficient production and consumption of energy resources.
