Sanchi oil tanker lawsuit is ongoing against owners of two ships and insurance companies seeking compensation, said Iranian government spokesman, Trend reports citing ISNA.
In addition to this case, there are ongoing lawsuits from some countries about sea pollution, costs of the rescue ship, and fire extinguishing mission against owners of two ships and insurance companies involved in the incident said Ali Bahadori Jahromi noted.
There is an ongoing complaint being reviewed in China and Hong Kong courts to identify officials accountable for each ship, he indicated.
The National Iranian Tanker Company has immediately issued a death certificate for the crew of Sanchi oil tanker to facilitate compensation payment to families of the crew and the international insurance compensation has been paid to 21 families, he explained.
The Iranian oil tanker, Sanchi was carrying 136,000 tons (960,000 barrels) of natural-gas condensate, sailing from Asaluyeh, Iran, to South Korea, when it collided with the Hong Kong-flagged cargo ship CF Crystal near Shanghai, China. The collision on January 6, 2018, caused a serious fire, and the oil tanker eventually sank eight days later. All 30 Iranian and two Bangladeshi seafarers died in the accident. The other vessel, CF Crystal was damaged at a comparatively minor scale and all of its 21 Chinese crew were rescued.
