BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 21. Eurogas, association representing the European gas wholesale, retail and distribution sectors towards the EU institutions, welcomes the efforts to secure further gas supply from Azerbaijan, James Watson, Eurogas Secretary General, told Trend.

“We welcome the drive of the European Commission to rapidly diversify from Russian gas. There is no one solution to the challenges Europe is facing in terms of security of supply and decarbonization. These can only be achieved using a number of different options, including increased gas capacities from non-Russian pipes and LNG coming to Europe. We’re working with our international partners to remove bottlenecks and facilitate diversification as quickly as possible. We welcome the efforts made in relation to securing further supply in the short term from Azerbaijan as we prepare for winter,” he said.

Watson also noted that there is a need in increased domestic production and imports of renewable and low-carbon gases.

“We support the European Commission’s efforts to reduce methane emissions across the entire gas supply chain and welcome that this is part of the bilateral agreement,” he added.
