BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. The growth in gas consumption in Iran is much higher than in the world, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said in his speech at the Iranian parliament on October 18, 2022, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.
“In general, gas consumption in Iran in summer is 160-170 million cubic meters per day. The figure increases to 600-700 million cubic meters in winter,” he said.
Owji added that the annual increase in gas consumption in Iran's residential buildings and small industrial facilities is 6 percent, in large industrial facilities – 5 percent, and in thermal power plants – 4 percent.
The minister noted that certain plans are being prepared in connection with changing the gas prices in the country.
According to him, about $80 billion is needed to increase Iran's gas production. Of this, $22 billion can be provided at the expense of domestic opportunities. However, the cooperation of the Iranian parliament is necessary.
Within the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022), gas consumption in Iran amounted to 109 billion cubic meters.
Of this, 39.3 billion cubic meters of gas were consumed by residential buildings and small industrial facilities, 26.9 billion cubic meters - by Iran's large industrial facilities and, 43.4 billion cubic meters - by Iran’s thermal power plants.
Currently, gas production in Iran is around 1 billion cubic meters per day. Of this, 44 percent, in other words, about 500 million cubic meters, is consumed in residential buildings and small industrial facilities.
