BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 27. Iran’s Gilan Province, located in the north of the country, is ready to exchange electricity with Caspian countries, especially Azerbaijan, Director of Iran’s Gilan Regional Electric Company (GILREC), Bahman Darabzadeh told IRNA, Trend reports.

“There is an electric substation in Astara County of Iran’s Gilan Province. With the help of the mentioned substation, it is possible to exchange electricity with Azerbaijan. Of course, it can be realized if both parties agree,” he said.

According to Darabzadeh, last summer, there was no electricity shortage in Gilan Province as a result of the maximum activity of power plants in the province, as well as citizens' compliance with the rules for electricity consumption.

The director also pointed out that it is planned to carry out work within the framework of 10 projects worth 10 trillion rials (about $238 million) in order to prevent the electricity shortage in the province during peak times of electricity consumption next summer. So, a number of substations are expected to be created within the mentioned projects.
