Italy cuts oil purchases from Azerbaijan in January

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 16. Italy has reduced its oil purchases from Azerbaijan by 4.7 times in January 2024 compared to January 2023, Trend reports.

According to the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan, in January 2024, the export of declared oil to Italy from Azerbaijan amounted to 179,236 tonnes worth $110.5 million.

Italy purchased 849,983 tonnes of Azerbaijani oil for $538 million in January 2023.

Azerbaijan's oil exports to Italy set a record in 2023 as the European state purchased 11.228 million tonnes of oil - more than a third of Azerbaijan's oil production.

To note, Italy receives Azeri oil from tankers in the Mediterranean, where the oil is pumped through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.
