Volume of gas & condensate production from Absheron field disclosed

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 12. The volume of gas production from Azerbaijan’s Absheron field stood at 0.3 billion cubic meters from January through February 2024, Trend reports via the country’s energy ministry.

This is while in the same period, the field produced 96,000 tons of condensate.

Overall, Azerbaijan has witnessed a significant surge in natural gas production during the first two months of this year, marking a notable increase of 240 million cubic meters compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

Gas production reached a total of 8.2 billion cubic meters, with 4.1 billion cubic meters earmarked for export.

The Absheron field is located offshore Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea in 500m depth of water, about 100km southeast of Baku, 25km north east of the Shah Deniz field and 33km south of Oil Rocks production and processing facilities.

In 2009, SOCAR and Total signed an Agreement on Exploration, Development and Production Sharing in the Absheron Offshore block in the Azerbaijan Sector of the Caspian Sea. According to this Agreement, SOCAR and Total had an equal share of 50 percent.

The Absheron EPS project consists of a single well (ABD-001) connected to SOCAR operated Oil Rocks facilities. The operatorship of the Absheron EPS is the responsibility of a Joint Operating Company of Absheron Petroleum named JOCAP, owned by SOCAR Absheron (35 percent), TotalEnergies EP Absheron B.V. (35 percent), and ADNOC International Project Co 1 RSC Limited (30 percent).
