BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 26. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has transported a total of 40 billion cubic meters of gas over the past four years, Luca Schieppati, TAP's Managing Director, said at the Italian Energy Summit, Trend reports.
“Over the past four years, nearly 40 billion cubic meters of gas have been transported by TAP, significantly enhancing Europe’s energy security, diversification, and transition,” he said.
The managing director pointed out that TAP is dedicated to expanding the pipeline’s capacity while supporting a sustainable energy transition by integrating greener molecules and minimizing our operational footprint.
TAP transports natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 877 km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.
TAP facilitates gas supplies to Southeastern European countries through existing and prospective interconnectors. TAP is connected to Interconnector Greece Bulgaria (IGB) which started its commercial operations in October 2022, providing Caspian gas to Bulgaria.
TAP’s shareholding is comprised of bp (20%), SOCAR (20%), Snam (20%), Fluxys (20%), Enagás (20%).
