Israeli company intends to participate in expansion of gas reservoirs in Azerbaijan

The Israeli company Bateman Litwin is in talks with Azerigas gas company on the expansion of gas reservoirs in the country, Vladimir Bokhachevskiy, the General Director of Bateman Litwin, stated in Baku. The approximate budget of the work will comprise $200m. It envisages driling of two wells for gas pumping, expansion of existing gas reservoirs and installation of necessary eqipment for pumping.

There are two operative reservoirs in Azerbaijan Garadagh and Kalmaz gas reservoirs with the total capacity of 1-1.1 billion cu m of gas. Through the designed work the capacity of Garadagh reservoirs is expected to reach 2-2.2 billion cu m and Kalmaz - 1-1.2 billion cu m. The work will take 2 years to compete.

The World Bank also takes interests in financing the project. Part of funds for financing the project can be provided by Azerbaijan.

The expansion of capacities of the gas reservoirs is intended for admission and reservation of increased gas production in Azerbaijan. So, there is no problem with in time completion of this work after the commencement of gas prediction from the Shah Deniz field. Gas supplies will be directed at covering the increasing demand of consumers, as well as supply of new subscribers.

Since the end of spring Azerigas joint-stock company has set up gas pumping to the underground gas reservoirs for further use of gas in winter period of 2006-2007. This year it is planned to pump approximately 1.30 billion cu m of gas to underground gas reservoirs.

The presentation was organized by the Israeli companies Modcon and Bateman, which are the leading service companies in the oil and gas sector of the Caspian.
