Azerbaijan Plays an Important Role in Energy Security of Europe: Vice-Speaker of NATO Parliamentary Assembly

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / On 17 May the Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan, Natig Aliyev, met with the Vice-Speaker of NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Head of the representation of the Romanian Government to NATO, Mikhail Lupou. The Ministry informs that the parties discussed the development of the relations between Azerbaijan and NATO, and security of the pipelines in the region. The two parties exchanged views on the Energy Summit in Krakow. The Minister said that Azerbaijan is the first country that concluded an energy security agreement with the European Union.

Lupou said that Azerbaijan plays an important role in the energy security of Europe. The meeting also covered the prospects of the Nabucco project. Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan is interested in participating in the project. The Minister spoke of the importance for Europe to make efforts to connect Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to Nabucco.

The meeting was also attended by the Advisor of Rompetrol Company, Nikolai Urache. In addition, during the meeting, the two men discussed the ways of directly transporting Azerbaijani oil to Romania.
