EU, UNESCO launching new program at Uzbek agricultural sector

The European Union and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) are launching an agricultural sector support program in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing nuz.uz.

The EU and UNESCO, together with the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, have launched a new 'Skills development for employability in rural areas of Uzbekistan' program funded by the EU.

The European Union (EU) has allocated 9.6 million euros for this initiative, which will be implemented by UNESCO between 2020 and 2024 in selected regions of Uzbekistan.

Under this initiative, UNESCO will assist in the development, testing and validation of new initiatives and approaches, including the training of teachers and educators in agriculture and irrigation to scale up the application of cross-cutting methods, high-tech agriculture and food production, as well as innovative approaches throughout the country.

Skills development for employability in rural areas of Uzbekistan program aims to improve living standards in rural areas by improving employment opportunities. The specific goal is to equip women and men in Uzbekistan with appropriate skills needed for work in sustainable, diversified and modernized agriculture sector.
