BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 29

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

About 8.6 million checks worth 2.03 quadrillion rials (about $48.4 billion) were exchanged in Iran in the 11th month of the last Iranian year (January 20 through February 18, 2021), Trend reports citing the Central Bank of Iran.

According to the statistics, the exchanged checks increased by 2 percent in terms of number and by 7.9 percent in terms of value compared to the 10th month of the last Iranian year (December 21, 2020 through January 19, 2021).

"The checks exchanged in the 11th month were mainly registered in Iran’s Tehran Province (30.7 percent in terms of number, 48.1 percent in terms of value), Isfahan Province (10.9 percent in terms of number, 7.3 percent in terms of value), Razavi Khorasan Province (7.7 in terms of number, 6 percent in terms of value)," the statistics said.

According to the statistics, 7.9 million checks worth 1.8 quadrillion rials (about $43 billion) were received in Iran in the 11th month. This is an increase of 2 percent in terms of number and 7.8 percent in terms of value compared to the 10th month.

The CBI noted that about 697,000 checks worth 227 trillion rials (about $5.4 billion) were returned in the 11th month.

The returned checks increased by 2.7 percent in terms of number and by 8.8 percent in terms of value compared to the 10th month.

The reason for the return of checks is the lack of available funds or a deficit. Thus, 671,000 checks worth 218 trillion rials (about $5.19 billion) were returned to Iran for these reasons.
