ADB, AIIB to provide loan for Uzbekistan to counter COVID-19

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will provide a loan in the total amount of $200 million within the framework of the project on taking urgent measures to counter the coronavirus infection COVID-19 in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Lex.uz, national database of legislation of Uzbekistan.

The president of Uzbekistan earlier signed a decree on measures to implement the project on adoption of urgent measures to counter coronavirus infection COVID-19 in Uzbekistan with the participation of the ADB and AIIB.

The document says that a loan agreement was signed between the ADB and Uzbekistan on the allocation of a loan in the amount of $100 million with a 10-year grace period and a condition of return for a period of 40 years - for the implementation of the project on taking urgent measures to counter the coronavirus infection COVID-19 in Uzbekistan.

In addition, the AIIB and Uzbekistan signed a loan agreement on the allocation of a loan in the amount of $100 million with a 10-year grace period and a 30-year repayment condition for the implementation of the project on taking urgent measures to counter the coronavirus infection COVID-19 in Uzbekistan.

It is expected that 17,554 employees of the central office, territorial administrations, district (city) departments of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service will improve their qualifications as part of the project.

Also, reconstruction, overhaul and equipping of 475 institutions of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service will be carried out.

According to the document, the volume of tests will increase in relation to the current indicator for detecting COVID-19 infection. It is reported that 500,000 test tests will be conducted.

Moreover, to further strengthen the material and technical base of the ambulance service in the republic, by October 1, 2021, 1,000 units of special ambulance vehicles will be purchased.
