BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 29. In modern conditions, when the utilization of natural resources is becoming more and more important, a great responsibility falls on electric-powered cars.

The first reason for this interest is the environmental friendliness of electric vehicles. Governments, automakers, and many experts around the world agree that electric cars are an important technology for reducing oil use and combating climate change.

The number of electrically powered vehicles has been increasing in Azerbaijan in recent years. Certain steps are being taken in our country to utilize the existing electric vehicle infrastructure in the network. Several charging points have been installed in Baku and other regions. However, the number of such charging points on the territory of Azerbaijan is limited. No excise duty is levied on electric vehicles imported into Azerbaijan. Individuals and legal entities importing electric vehicles pay only VAT and several fees. Consequently, the total purchase price of such vehicles is inexpensive.

This can have a strong impact on the greenhouse gas emissions of gasoline-powered vehicles. Battery-powered electric vehicles have very little effect on emissions. The greenhouse gas emissions of these vehicles are about 17 to 30 percent lower than those of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles. The manufacturing processes of electric vehicles also need to be more efficient, and power generation needs to be cleaner. The emissions of electric vehicles could be reduced by at least 73 percent by 2050.

According to research, cars around the world consume 18 million barrels of fuel products daily. At the current rate of electric vehicle sales and the current rate of other trends, at least 50 million electric vehicles would need to be used globally to reduce consumption by 18 million barrels per million barrels.
