Azerbaijan, Baku, November 6 / Trend , G.Veliyev /

The State Administration of Radio Frequency (SARF) of Azerbaijan permitted to use on aircraft the GSM equipment operating at a frequency of 1800 MHz, the State Administration of Radio Frequencies said.

According to the chief engineer of SARF Ilham Efendiyev, the introduction of the mobile communication systems on the board of the aircraft depends on the airlines themselves.

Currently, many airlines prohibit the use of mobile phones because of fears associated with the possibility of malfunction of the onboard equipment of the liner. The ban is also connected with that the rapid moving between cellular networks can break their work on the land.

AZAL JSC considers the possibility of using communication technologies on board. The press secretary of AZAL Maharram Safarli said earlier that this issue will be urgent after the expansion of the aircraft park, which is scheduled for the end of 2014. Accordingly, the wide opportunities of modern aircraft in the future will allow the passengers of AZAL to use telecommunication services on board.

In 2008, the European Commission authorized the use of mobile phones on European flights. The new rules allow passengers to use personal cell phones for calls, exchange SMS and e-mail during flights.
