Education Minister: One computer falls on 20 pupils in Azerbaijan

In Azerbaijan, 20 students work with one computer, Education Minister Misir Mardanov said today.

According to Education Ministry statistics, the figure is 60 times more than that in secondary schools. In the last five year, 1,036 pupils have had to work with one computer.

According to Mardanov, this year 16 million manats will be spent on the computerization of schools. Most the money will be spent to connect 500 schools to the high-speed Internet and conduct trainings for teachers.

Work on informatization of Azerbaijan's educational system for 2008-2012 is carried out under the state program.

The main objective of the project is to create a unified educational information sphere, which will improve the quality of education and will integrate the country into the global system of education.

This will allow effective managing of the country's educational system and will establish contacts with educational institutions of foreign countries.
