Internet broadband penetration rate in Azerbaijan hits 45 percent

Internet broadband penetration rate in Azerbaijan hits 12 percent, a report published by Azerbaijan Marketing Society said.

According to the society, the number of Internet users hits 45 percent of the total number of respondents all over the country, or 1,5 times more than official figures. Internet broadband penetration rate is estimated at 17 percent.

The report on the state of the market of information and communication technologies was prepared by the society as of the first half on the basis of the respondents' answers and official figures of the Communications and IT Ministry and the State Statistical Committee.

Over 5,800 respondents participated in the poll. Over 64 percent fall to the capital.

Over 24 percent of respondents belong to the age group between 14-24, 22 percent - 25-34, 21 percent - 35-44, 20 percent - 45-54, 9 percent - 55-64 and 4 percent - 65-74.

Over 45 percent of the respondents are men.

According to the poll, in general, about 25.7 percent of the total number of respondents in the republic have computers. The figure hits 38 percent in Baku.

Over 18 percent of the respondents, who did not have personal computers, said that they would buy them during six months.

The average number of computers per 100 people, is 14 units. According to the society, home users had 2.9 and 5.7 units in 2008 and 2009 respectively. According to the society, the figure is 27.4 percent in 2010.
