Azerbaijan will discuss roaming tariffs regulation in CIS

Azerbaijan will take part in the discussion of proposals on possible regulation of roaming tariffs among CIS countries, the Azerbaijani Ministry for Communications and Information Technologies told Trend on Monday.

The Ministry's Aztelekom will attend 27/23 joint meetings of the Telecommunications Operators Board of the Regional Commonwealth of Communications (RCC) and the RCC Telecommunications Commission.

The events will be held on April 6-7 in Turkmenistan.

The RCC agenda includes the question of possible reduction of roaming rates; the commission created a working group that conducts direct negotiations on reducing roaming tariffs by mobile operators. The RCC combines the CIS, the Baltic countries and Eastern Europe. The decision on reducing roaming tariffs within such a framework could have significant effects, as RCC communication administrations have leverages on mobile operators.

The joint meeting will also discuss the development and introduction of new telecommunication services, experience in relations between the operators and Internet users, the goal of developing a digital broadcasting network and preparation of RCC Communications
Administrations for the World Conference on International Telecommunication in 2012 and the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly in 2012, etc. will also be discussed.
