By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

Aztelekom Ltd., the state communications operator of Azerbaijan, will start the commercial sale of fixed wireless broadband internet services using LTE technology in early May, a source in the country's telecommunications market told Trend.

The source said the pilot project launched in late 2017 in two villages of Khachmaz district has been successfully completed, and the issue of expanding the network coverage in other settlements is being considered.

"The main goal of the project is to cover with broadband access the hard-to-reach settlements, where the cable lying is unprofitable. Within the pilot project in Khachmaz, several families were given an opportunity to use wireless internet services for free for several months and Aztelekom LLC is ready to expand the project to other regions," the source said.

As for Aztelekom's tariffs for LTE services, the source said they will correspond to the current tariffs for the ADSL services.

"Users will be offered unlimited packages. The limit will only be on access speeds. At the initial stage, tariffs will correspond to the current ADSL tariffs, and further it is possible that users will be offered additional packages and devices for connection," the source said.
