Azerfon’s Subscribers’ Number Exceeds Tens of Thousands

Azerbaijan, Baku, /corr. Trend S.Babayeva / The number of users of Nar Mobile, a trade brand held by a mobile operator Azerfon, exceeds tens of thousands. Azerfon reported that the commencement of its activities in March 2007.

At present intensive expansion of the network in Baku and regions of Azerbaijan is underway. "The major goal is to achieve 80% coverage of Nar Mobile network through out Azerbaijan without national roaming," the company said.

Azerfon concluded an agreement in internal roaming with another GSM operator, Bakcell. The agreement is inn force by the end of 2007.

The number of Nar Mobile subscribers is expected to reach approximately 1mln by the end of the year.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies has issued Azerfon with a license for rendering of mobile services in December 2005. The founders of Azerfon are Aztelekom (10%), German Siemens (30%) and British companies (60%).

Along with Azerfon, Azercell (with over 2.4mln subscribers) and Bakcell (with over 700,000 subscribers) deliver mobile services on GSM standards.
