Iranian minister talks freeway development

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov. 19

Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development said that during Rouhani`s administration, the length of the country's freeways increased by 50 percent, and by the end of his second term (end of June 2021), the total length of the country's highways will reach 20,000 kilometers.

Iranian Minister Mohammad Eslami, at the opening ceremony of several national Roads and Urban Development projects, said that he had taken great steps to improve the transportation infrastructure indicators

“From the beginning of the government (June 2013) until today, the length of national freeways has increased from 2,100 kilometers of freeways to more than 3,000 kilometers, which has resulted in a 50 percent increase,” said Eslami, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Referring to the East Isfahan freeway that will be inaugurated today on Thursday he says that "Today, two sections of this freeway, which is 100 km long, will be inaugurated."

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development said that “This freeway is very effective in distributing traffic in Isfahan.”

Referring to the increase in the length of the country's highways, Eslami said that "From 12,000 kilometers of highways in the country in 2013, we reached 18,000 kilometers."

He went on to say that Hormozgan and Kerman highways will be opened today.

Eslami went on to mention the increasing the capacity of the country's airports.

“The government increased the capacity of airports to 75 million passengers per year,” he said adding that it was 57 million passengers per year at the beginning of Rouhani`s first term administration (began in June 2013)

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development added that with the completion of the first phase, the passenger transportation capacity at Tehran`s Imam Khomeini Airport will reach 100 million people.

“The volume of flight routes has increased by 50 percent within 3 years,” he said.
