Regular shipping line to be created between Iran-Italy ports

A regular shipping line will be created between the Iranian Chabahar port and the Italian Venice Maritime Cluster port in the near future, Director General at Ports and Maritime Organization for Logistics and Multimodal Transport Khosrow Saraei said, Trend reports citing the organization.

Saraei said that an agreement on cooperation between the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), Chabahar Free Trade Zone and the Venice Maritime Cluster was signed on September 29, 2019 in Tehran.

He added that in this regard, the importance of maritime trade between Iran and Italy was stressed in a meeting held online format on March 10.

The director general noted that a committee of experts from both sides will be established to work on the creation of the shipping line, as well as the use of investment opportunities.

According to Saraei, the sides also emphasized the need to establish an appropriate mechanism to support government agencies, research institutions, private companies and other agencies to increase cooperation between the two ports.

About 221,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the Chabahar port in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (southeastern Iran) in the 10th month of the current Iranian year (December 21, 2020 through January 19, 2021).

So, 3,310 tons of cargo were loaded and 218,000 tons were unloaded in the port over the reporting period.
