France’s large machine-building company Alstom will support Azerbaijan Railways CJSC in the service of electric locomotives and the supply of spare parts to ensure the locomotives’ entire life cycle, the company’s Managing Director in Western and Central Asia, Guillaume Tritter told Trend on Mar.15.
Tritter noted that the Azerbaijan Railways built two modern and well-equipped electric locomotive depots.
"We’ll conduct trainings for the groups specialized in maintaining the local railways, using our experience in the field of service optimization," he said, reminding that since 2017, Alstom has delivered 40 freight and 10 passenger electric locomotives to Azerbaijan.
According to the managing director, the AZ4A passenger locomotive was developed on the basis of Alstom's Prima modular platform designed to provide operators with the most suitable solutions for the provision of passenger services.
“AZ4A is one of the most universal electric locomotives in the world. It’s capable of moving at 160 km/h, and among its features, there can be noted longer turnaround times, lower energy consumption, lower locomotive service costs, and increased efficiency in car fleet management,” Tritter further said. “The locomotive is designed for successful operation in extreme weather conditions from -25 degrees Celsius to +50. AZ4A is a PRIMA M4 multipurpose diesel locomotive, developed on the basis of Azerbaijan Railways’ technical requirements and in accordance with GOST standards and specifications. It has an advanced traction system based on Alstom technology, which requires minimal maintenance and ensures high-reliability level and low life cycle costs owing to its modular design.”
Besides, he spoke about the development of a heavy-weight electric locomotive AZ8A (Prima T8) on the basis of the technical requirements of Azerbaijan Railways and in accordance with the standards and specifications of GOST (CIS standard).
"The Prima T8 with eight axles is one of the most powerful electric locomotives in the world. This model is a two-section electric freight locomotive, capable of pulling up to 9,000 tons and moving at a speed of 120 km/h, with an installed capacity of 8.8 MW. The locomotive has an advanced traction system based on Alstom technology and is designed to operate in temperatures from -25 to +50 degrees," stressed the French company’s representative.
