The Emirati DP World Company, one of the world's largest logistics operators, will develop a network of logistics centers in Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with the leadership of the Emirati company DP World represented by the Chief Operating Officer for Digital Technologies and Logistics Mike Bhaskaran.

According to the ministry, within the framework of the project to create a ‘dry port’ in Navoi region, issues of building a large logistics hub and a free economic zone in the Tashkent region, as well as the development of a network of logistics centers in Tashkent and regions of the country were discussed.

It was noted that the projects will make it possible to multiply the volume of freight traffic passing through the territory of Uzbekistan, facilitate the access of domestic manufacturers to foreign markets and strengthen Uzbekistan's position as a key logistics hub in Central Asia.

It is reported that an agreement was reached on an accelerated transition to the practical phase of the project.

Also, prospects for cooperation on the development of e-commerce in Uzbekistan and the creation of digital infrastructure for the integration of all participants in foreign economic activity into a single system were discussed.

The Emirati side expressed its readiness to provide advanced software and technological solutions in this area and to assist in their implementation in Uzbekistan.

In addition, the meeting discussed the issue of Uzbekistan's joining the international trade promotion program World Logistics Passport (WLP), initiated by the government of the Emirate of Dubai (UAE). An agreement was reached to sign a corresponding agreement by the end of this month.

World Logistics Passport is an international program to expand trade opportunities between emerging markets. The initiative aims to remove non-tariff barriers to international trade and improve the efficiency of the supply chain by optimizing freight costs and reducing the time it takes to move goods. Since its launch in 2019, the program has increased the volume of trade operations carried out by its participants by 10 percent.

According to the information, the company's delegation has been in Uzbekistan since May 16 and held working meetings with the leadership of the Ministry of Transport, the State Customs Committee and the governor of the Tashkent region. During the negotiations, issues of integrating modern IT solutions to optimize customs procedures were discussed in order to significantly reduce the time spent on customs clearance of export-import operations.
