Iranian MPs approved the amendment to the auto industry reorganization plan in order to get the Guardian Council`s attention, Trend reports citing ILNA.
The Iranian government has banned the importing of cars for the past three years, Iranian car manufacturing companies have grabbed the chance to entirely monopolize the local market.
However, the Car Reorganization Plan has raised the possibility of the resumption of car imports.
According to article 4 of the amended Car Reorganization Plan, any natural or legal individuals can import either electric, hybrid, or any gasoline or diesel-powered car at an energy class of B or A in exchange for the export of cars, car parts, or other goods or services related to the car industry, or through imports without foreign currency at the official rate (42,000 rials per dollar).
The amendment to the Plan emphasized that the import of cars should not create any new foreign exchange obligation for the government.
“The volume of authorized imported cars is determined once every six months by the Competition Council,” the amended Plan said.
According to the Car Industry Reorganization Plan, amended by the Parliament, Monopolizing the Customer Service Representative for foreign car brands is prohibited.
The Plan sets the framework to import used cars with an average age of above 3 years.
