BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will conduct discussions with Turkmen side for the reduction of the transit duty for the passage of Iranian trucks through Turkmenistan in the next meeting, Director General of the Transit and International Affairs Department of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) Javad Hedayati told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to Hedayati, the establishment of special committees between the transport ministries of the two countries in connection with the reduction of duties is also in the spotlight.

The director general added that during the coronavirus pandemic, Turkmenistan stopped the transit of goods via trucks from its territory.

"As a result of a series of discussions between Iran and Turkmenistan, Turkmenistan allowed Iran to transit goods through its territory. At present, goods are transported between Iran and Turkmenistan through the Sarakhs border checkpoint," he said.

The official emphasized that while the other three border checkpoints between the two countries are still inactive.

As of June 1, 2022, Turkmenistan has announced that it will allow the transit of goods through its territory. Currently, an Iranian truck driver passing through Turkmenistan has to pay a total of $3,100 to enter and leave the country.
