Iran's Bushehr Province’s ports witness significant rise in cargo handling

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at the ports of Iran’s Bushehr Province increased by 11 percent during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through July 22, 2023), compared to the same period in the last year, Director General of Bushehr Province’s Ports and Maritime Department Mohammad Shakibinasab said, Trend reports.

The director general noted that a total of 21.8 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the ports of Bushehr Province in 4 months.

"Of the mentioned volume, 18 million tons accounted for crude oil and related products, while 3.8 million tons accounted for non-oil products, which is an increase of 9.5 percent and 19 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last Iranian year," Shakibinasab added.

According to him, more than 54,900 TEU containers were loaded and unloaded at the province’s ports over the course of four months.

As for cargo transit through the ports of Bushehr Province, the official said that cargo transit via the province’s ports for 4 months increased by 80 percent compared to the same period in the last year and reached 9,290 tons.

"In 4 months, exports through the Bushehr Province's ports increased by 24.5 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 10.6 million tons. At the same time, imports also increased by 14.5 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to 332,000 tons," he also pointed out.

There are several main ports, including Bushehr, Kharg, Genaveh, Dayyer, Asaluyeh, and others, operating in Iran’s Bushehr Province.
