BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 30. The Bilasuvar border terminal in the Ardabil Province of Iran has witnessed a significant amount of cargo transit in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2023), Trend reports.
The head of the border terminal Lotfollah Babaei said that a total of 366,000 tons of cargo were transited via the mentioned terminal in 7 months.
This figure represents a decrease of over 9 percent compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2022), when the cargo transit through the terminal reached approximately 406,000 tons.
Babaei noted that the main products that were transited through the Bilasuvar border terminal were mineral water, soft drinks, cloth, rice, and other consumer goods.
The terminal is located on the border of Iran and Azerbaijan and serves as a major gateway for trade and commerce between the two neighboring countries.
Despite the decrease in cargo transit through the Bilasuvar border terminal, Iran has seen an overall increase in its transit volume in the half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023).
According to the latest statistics from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), a total of 7.7 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran during this period, which is an increase of 8.24 percent compared to the same period last year.
Iran is strategically located in the crossroads of several important regional and international trade corridors and has been developing its transit infrastructure and facilities to boost its role as a transit hub in the region.
