BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 7. Representatives of international organizations considered issues related to the simplification of customs and trade procedures during the presentation organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on initial findings and recommendations of the report "Realizing the Potential of the Middle Corridor", Trend reports.
The TRACECA noted that the meeting was attended by representatives of the OECD, experts, partners from the trade, transport and logistics sphere in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Türkiye, international organizations (ITF, OTS, BSEC, TRACECA), as well as other interested parties to exchange views on the development of a system of multilateral permits, visa issues, digitalization, implementation of an electronic data exchange system.
Furthermore, participants in the presentation discussed issues such as the simplification of trade and customs procedures, the harmonization of legal norms, the enhancement of infrastructure with a focus on improving multimodality along the route, and the study of the Middle Corridor's development potential from the perspective of the private sector and key public actors to help map and sequence the main reform priorities in relation to regional integration, infrastructure, and transportation.
"After completing the work on the final report, it is critical to collaborate on one of the recommendations and achieve a point-by-point increase in the competitiveness of the corridor." The employment of electronic CMR in the outset would be a fantastic direction," Secretary General Asset Assavbayev remarked.
