Cargo transit through Iran’s land roads growing

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 3. Cargo transit through Iranian roads and railways rose by 40.5 percent in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023, through January 20, 2024), compared to the same period last year, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Kamal Hadianfar said, Trend reports.

According to Hadianfar, nearly 12.7 million tons of cargo were transited via the roads and railways of the country in ten months.

He also said that of the mentioned amount, 4.1 million tons were crude oil and petroleum products, representing an 88.5 percent increase from the same period the previous year,

Meanwhile, 8.56 million tons accounted for non-oil products, showing an increase of 25.2 percent compared with the same period last Iranian year, the deputy minister added.

Hadianfar noted that 11.4 million tons of goods were transited via Iran's roads and 1.26 million tons via the country’s railways. This is an increase of 46 percent and 1 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

Currently, there are 2,793 km of controlled-access highways, 45,170 km of highways, and freeways in operation in Iran.

The length of railway lines in Iran is currently 14,984 kilometers. At present, 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons, and 2,153 passenger wagons are in operation on Iran's railways.
