Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has appointed Nurlan Dzhulamanov to the post of Border Service head, Kazakh presidential press-service reported.

"N. Dzhulamanov has been appointed to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Kazakh Republic's National Security Committee - director of the Border Service," the press-service said.

Dzhulamanov has earlier served as the First Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Defense Ministry.

On late December 2012 the acting head of the Kazakh Border Service Turganbek Stambekov died in a plane crash. Stambekov was appointed as acting head of the border service in June, after a mass killing of 15 people including 14 border guards and one ranger at Kazakh Arkankergen border post near China. Vladislav Chelakh, a 20-year-old conscript, was sentenced to life in prison after being found solely responsible for the killings.
