Kazakhstan, Iran discuss possibility of oil swap operation resumption

Kazakhstan and Iran have discussed the possibility of resuming oil swap operations, the Kazakh presidential press-service said Sept. 10.

"A number of investment projects will be implemented with the participation of Iran," President Nazarbayev said during a joint press-conference with his Iranian counterpart. "In particular, the projects for the construction of a glass plant in the Kyzylorda region, hydrometallurgical plants in the Karaganda region, and alumina production in Kostanai region will be considered. Other important themes are conducting oil SWAP operations, regional, scientific and technical cooperation, as well as cooperation in the field of information."

The Kazakh president expressed confidence that the visit of the Iranian delegation representatives and signed documents will raise the relations between the two countries to a new level and wished success to Iran's counterpart Hassan Rouhani and all of the Iranian people.

President Rouhani thanked the Kazakh president for the invitation to visit the country.

"This is our fourth meeting for the last year after a new government in Iran started working," President Rouhani said. "There is an opportunity to exchange views. The talks were held in the presence of ministers of the two countries Sept. 9. We discussed all issues of bilateral relations in the economic, cultural, scientific and tourism sectors, as well as in the fight against extremism."
