Baku, Azerbaijan, June 29

Transportation documents are now processed 30 times faster at the Kazakhstan-China border checkpoint, the press service of the Kazakhstan Railways stated June 29.
The Kazakhstan Railways noted that it became possible to significantly accelerate the process of obtaining information and processing of transportation documents on the China-Kazakhstan route thanks to the substitution of copper cables for optic-fiber cables between the Altynkol and Khorgos interface points.
"While previously the information about the cargo arrived in Altynkol from Khorgos in 30-40 seconds, now this takes just a second. The processing of documents has been reduced by 30 times," said head of the Altynkol station Zhandos Untakbayev.
Untakbayev said the exchange of information between Khorgos and Altynkol is conducted continuously.
"Even when the container train is still in China, the documents for it are already ready at the Altynkol station in electronic form. In total, the processing time of one container train is 3 hours 55 minutes."
Since the beginning of this year, 64 container trains have been sent through the Altynkol station in the direction of Europe, including 12 to Germany and 32 to Poland. Cargo is also sent to Finland, Slovakia, Austria, and Hungary.
About 250 trains passed the Altynkol station in the direction of Central Asia, and five trains were sent through the new route to the Persian Gulf.
Some 316 trains were accepted at the Altynkol station from the beginning of 2018, whereas Kazakh railwaymen accepted 421 trains in 2017. The Altynkol station can handle 20 trains per day.
